Cataracts are formed when the proteins in the lens of the eye begin to clump together and cloud vision. The condition results in blurred vision and a range of other vision problems. Cataracts are irreversible and, unlike other conditions that are treatable with glasses or contacts, they can only be resolved with surgical intervention. During surgery, the cataracts are removed and replaced with a replacement lens implant.
